Computed Tomography, also called CT Scan or CAT scan, is a diagnostic tool that provides views of the internal structures of the body using small amounts of radiation. CT scans are capable of imaging bone as well as soft tissue structures. CT scans allow detailed imaging of the body with the potential for both 2D and 3D reconstruction, providing your physician with a more comprehensive view than a standard x-ray.
A procedure that introduces a contrast medium (dye) into the joint via injection for better visualization of small joint anatomy (e.g. labrum)
A pain relief medication is introduced into the joint (or other anatomy) using x-ray guidance.
A procedure that introduces a contrast medium (dye) into the spinal canal for better visualization of the spinal cord and intervertebral discs.
A QCT, or Quantitative Computed Tomography, is a medical imaging technique used to measure bone mineral density (BMD). It uses a CT scanner to obtain detailed images of bones, typically the spine or hip, to assess bone density and diagnose osteoporosis. QCT provides 3D measurements and can differentiate between trabecular and cortical bone. However, it involves higher radiation exposure and is more expensive compared to other methods like DXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry).
